English Riding Supply is recalling Happy Mouth horse wire mouth bits that can break during use, which can pose a fall hazard for riders.
The recall affects eight different models of the bits, which were sold nationwide for the past nine years.
Michelle Yohey, operations manager at English Riding, said the company is working with its retailers to reach consumers. She said most of the bits are being returned, though she didn’t have figures on how many of the 3,400 are accounted for.
Yohey said she’s not aware of any injuries to horses stemming from the affected mouth bits, though four incidences of breaking bits caused injuries like broken bones and bruising to riders.
