In another recall, Johnson & Johnson announced it is pulling a lot of Aveeno Baby Calming Comfort lotion from shelves because it has a high level of a staphylococcus bacteria.
The announcement comes on the heels of the release of their 2011 fourth quarter profit report which detailed a sharp decline in Q4 earnings compared with 2010, but an overall increase in revenue. Analysts blamed costs of recalls including fines and litigation for the decrease and a two-year decline trend in profits that J&J managed to break with last year’s increased overall earnings.
This recall, though, affects more than 2,000 tubes of the lotion with lot number 0161LK and was distributed in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Tennessee and Texas.
Vice President of Communications for Johnson & Johnson, Bonnie Jacobs, told CNN that the recall is for the retail-level and that customers who own the lotion can continue to use it.
The company’s press release says the possibility for adverse health effects is “remote” and that the high levels of bacteria that the FDA found were not found in independent lab tests. Consumers who have questions or who would like a refund can contact J&J at 1-877-298-2525.
