Check in the bathroom cabinets and your purses: there’s been a tampon recall.
Late last week, Kotex announced a recall of their Natural Balance Security Unscented tampons due to the potential presence of a bacteria that can cause UTIs and vaginal infections. The tampons, which are regular absorbency, include two product SKUs and were sold in 18-count and 36-count boxes. The 36-count box is shown above.
Walmart stores in the Midwest – specifically Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, New Mexico and Texas sold the cartons, as well as specific Smith’s stores in Utah and Arizona.
While there have been no reports of any adverse reactions or risks, Kotex and the maker, Kimberly-Clark, are urging women who have used the Natural Balance Security Unscented tampons and experienced unusual vaginal discharge, rash, fever, headaches, vomiting or abdominal pains to consult a doctor immediately. The bacteria, Enterobacter sakazakii, can cause various health risks and women with serious existing illnesses, cancer, or immune-compromised conditions like HIV are at increased risk. This is the second recall in a few months of a personal care item that women rely upon for necessity and protection. Are you concerned about what we’re putting into our bodies? Are you more likely to buy products if the packaging says it’s natural?
