Uprize 2.0 was recalled after testing positive for superdrol, an anabolic steroid.

Marietta, Ga., company Superior Metabolic Technologies Inc. Uprizing 2.0 was sold at retail health food stores in eight US states: Alabama, Arizona, California, Georgia, Mississippi, New Jersey, South Carolina and Texas.

Calls and emails to the manufacturer were not returned at the time of publication.

The use of synthetic anabolic steroids can cause many adverse effects including liver damage, infertility, and increased risk of heart attack, stroke and death.

In 2005, The Washington Post raised awareness of Superdrol, along with several other “designer steroids,” that were being marketed as dietary supplements. This prompted the U.S. Food & Drug Administration to issue a public warning to manufacturers and distributors of the substance.

On Aug. 5, the FDA informed Superior Metabolic Technologies Inc. that their product contained the banned substance which prompted the voluntary recall.
