High checked-baggage fees cutting into your travel plans?
InterContinental is offering to pay travelers’ checked-baggage fees through the end of 2010 if you book a stay at an InterContinental Group hotel worldwide.
Hotels include Crowne Plaza, Hotel Indigo, Holiday Inn, Holiday Inn Express, Express by Holiday Inn, Holiday Inn Club Vacations, Staybridge Suites and Candlewood Suites. IHG owns 4,600 hotels worldwide.
Stays through discount websites like Expedia, Orbitz, and Travelocity are included. The nightly price must be publicly available to qualify. “Name Your Own Price” bookings are not valid for the discount, so LastMinuteTravel, Hotwire, Priceline are not eligible.
For weekend stays between Sept. 1 and Dec. 30, 2010 (including holidays), InterContinental Hotels Group will reimburse $25 each way for a total of $50 roundtrip.
There’s a few catches:
- Two consecutive weekend nights must be booked at any one of IHG’s 4,600 hotels worldwide.
- The nights must be booked with your Visa credit card during the “Check It Free” promotion period.
- You must apply for reimbursement via www.ihg.com/freebag and submit copies of your hotel receipt and baggage fees.
- All reimbursement requests must be postmarked by Jan. 31, 2011.
IHG hopes eliminating the fees will result in more travel and hotel use. “Baggage fees can really add up, “Del Ross, IHG vice president for U.S. sales and marketing, said in a press release.
